The Travellers’ Voice.
A film to promote awareness of Traveller communities and existing prejudices. DVD
We were approached by Velia Hartland, Educational Advisor at Richmond-Upon-Thames. “I worked with InFactuation on producing a DVD raising education issues and prejudices facing this vulnerable group of people. It was great to work with a production team that shared the same values and were able to deal with very sensitive issues in a positive light. The impact of the DVD has been great; it’s raised awareness of the prejudices facing the traveller community and has been used in training. Before we had the DVD we were unable to show what we knew about this very vulnerable group of people. I would highly recommend InFactuation and would love to work with them again.” Velia had worked with another production company initially to make the Traveller’s Voice film but had been unhappy with the resulting film as she felt that the Travellers had not been accurately represented. She approached us to remake the film from scratch and was very happy with what we produced.
“The main achievement of the project was that we’re now able to take the DVD along to schools and other young people’s setting in training to raise awareness. Not only about the culture around the traveller community but also the prejudices facing them and potential barriers to the children’s education. It’s raised awareness and it’s having a very positive impact.”

Home Learning at Ben Jonson Primary School.
An exploration of the strategies for young children learning english as a second language. DVD
This DVD shows parents how they can supplement and enhance their child's education through various activities at home - from reading with them, to making lists and counting change. This DVD was made for a school that had children from a predominantly Bengali background for whom English was often a second language. The staff at the school were very aware that the parents of the pupils wanted to help their children to get the most out of their education but were unsure of how to do so. Through this DVD staff were able to reach out to parents and other schools in the Tower Hamlets area. This was a great opportunity for us to work on some drama set-ups as we worked with 3 actors – a woman and 2 children to demonstrate different home learning techniques.
Diversity in Society Documentary:
Black Pupil's Voices
Black peoples achievement in education. DVD
"All that we learnt at school about Black history is that our ancestors were slaves and they were owned". We made this powerful film for Connexions exploring the experiences of the British school system through the eyes of young Black people. Originally it was intended only to be circulated through Connexion’s South West London radius, but it proved so ground breaking that it was used nationally in schools and at conferences to highlight the important issues of race and identity.
“It was important to commission a company to work with the pupils that clearly had an understanding and an empathy with cultural diversity and equality issues and that was why InFactuation were so useful and the right company to use for this particular project…They worked with me very affectively listening very carefully to what I wanted in terms of the outcomes of the video so in the end the piece that was produced was very powerful.”

Love Is Not Enough – experiences in transracial adoption
The title says it all. DVD
Transracial adoption is one of the most contested issues in adoption, should people be able to adopt children of another race? Our first documentary set out to give its audience first hand experience of what it is like to be transracially adopted. We made this film with the Association for Transracially Adopted and Fostered People and it was marketed to social services departments nationwide including some international sales. This is a very popular DVD and it has allowed us to build up our company reputation and established us as filmmakers with passion and a social conscience.
"I think it's essential in that it will inform practice and have a profound impact on family placement policy in the future"
Erica Peltier, The Children's Society
Journeys of Necessity
Young refugees awareness, experiencing a new country. DVD
"I would never choose to come here to a strange country and live by myself without my parents if I didn't have to"... young people talk about their experiences of seeking refuge in the UK and the amazing work of The Brent Project. It was really inspirational to work with the staff at the Brent Project and very humbling to hear the experiences of the young people. These teenagers had been through some truly devastating experiences but their spirits were not broken and through the support network of the project they were rebuilding their lives and creating their futures.
Every Generation
a documentary mainstreaming black Britain. DVD
This series of films made with Patrick Vernon, creator of the award winning website, Every Generation, documents black British identity from it’s origins in Africa to the Caribbean and the UK. We have filmed many of the major African Caribbean events for these documentaries, including the launch of 100 Great Black Britons, the unveiling of the portrait of Mary Seacole at the National Portrait Gallery and the Roots Festival in Gambia. We travelled with Patrick to Senegal and Gambia following his journey as he retraced his roots following a DNA test that took him to a remote village in the South Western corner of Senegal where his ancestors originated. This was our first trip to Africa and was such an exhilarating and challenging experience that we realised how much we want to develop international projects and documentaries.
Personal Empowerment Documentary:
The Wisdom Years
A personal journey of empowerment preparing for retirement. DVD
This DVD came about as a result of Mike’s dad, Colin retiring and seeking out some information to help the process run smoother. He was surprised to see that there wasn’t much information out there, certainly none that was very visually stimulating and he came up with the idea of producing a DVD. Colin and 4 other people are featured in the film talking about their experiences of retirement and how they are coping with this massive change - do they see it as a wonderful opportunity or do they feel catapulted into the unknown? InFactuation worked in collaboration with Mark Bloomfield, Director of PRAGMA the Pre-retirement Association of Greater Manchester and Mark is on hand throughout the DVD to give his expert advice.
Moving into Action
a documentary on the psychodrama technique. DVD
Psychodrama is a technique that has long been used in residential therapeutic communities to promote psychological healing and personal development. InFactuation were approached by psychotherapist Peter Haworth to make a film about psychodrama called 'Moving Into Action' to raise awareness about this powerful technique. We relished the opportunity to work with this group of people as filming consisted of a multi camera shoot and drama set ups. All the roles were played by therapists and we were impressed by the honest and open way they were able to really give their characters emotion and depth.
Happier than God
a documentary on a one day workshop with Neale Donald Walsch on the Law of Attraction. DVD
A double DVD documentary of a workshop by Neale Donald Walsch filmed in London in 2007, covering material from his book ‘Happier than God’. Neale covers material ranging from the law of attraction to the 17 steps to being happier than God. This is a practical workshop full of practical techniques for use in our everyday lives. Disc 1 is of a workshop with Neale entitled ‘Happier than God’ – a workshop in spiritual awakening which introduces the audience to his new book ‘Happier than God’. Disc 2 is a bonus DVD – ‘Lighten the Load’ – an evening conversation with Neale. This is the first of what we hope will be many practical learning DVD’s by inspirational teachers.
Health Documentary:
Food 4 Thought
Experience a change in life and diet through Cancer Black Care Members.
We approached the charity Cancer Black Care to work with them to produce a DVD following Rawle Price’s journey, an Afro-Caribbean cancer survivor. Rawle is keen to ensure that his prostate cancer does not reoccur and we follow him as he talks to leading fellow cancer sufferers, health professionals, nutritionists and a family of top sporting athletes. This was a great opportunity for us to test a new method of working where we approach charities or organisations that we want to work with and co-fund the project with them. We then recoup our costs through DVD sales whilst at the same time raising our profile and building the DVD sales arm of the company.
Corporate Documentary:
The Presentation Group
4 films exploring this diverse and forward thinking housing association. DVD.
We were commissioned by housing association, ‘Presentation’ to make a series of DVDs for their staff conference highlighting the projects, groups and people that make ‘Presentation’ such a vibrant and vital organisation. This was a great opportunity for us to work with Arun Misra, the then creative director of Presentation to come up with a really creative brief to make the DVD's more interesting than many run of the mill promotional films. We chose the theme of the 4 elements – Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.
If you would now like to talk to us about a specific project you are considering or want any further information or even just to chat about our work, please contact me Ros Gihan Williams.
